I became a data analyst after being a data scientist. It was the best career decision I ever made. If you’re considering a career between a data analyst vs. a data scientist you may be wondering:

How can a data analyst beat a data scientist named by Harvard Business Review as “the sexiest job of the 21st century”?

These are the reasons why I love being a data analyst and why I would make the same choice if I had to do it all over again.

1. Narrow vs. wide focus

As a data scientist I supported the email marketing team and focused on building models to increase customer conversion rates. This was a very narrow part of the business. I rarely interacted with other groups and had no understanding of the business other than email marketing.

My experience supporting marketing was totally different when I accepted a data analyst role at a new company. I worked on a wide range of projects and interacted with multiple groups including product, customer success, and finance.
